Selena Gomez as Beezus, Joey King as RamonaRamona Quimby, as she explains in the opening voiceover, is "not a pest. I just have an overactive imagination." That imagination not only makes her everyday adventures much more interesting; it also helps her deal with some pretty big changes in her family. After all, "if you can't be brave at recess, " she asks, "how can you be brave when it really counts?" Nine-year-old Ramona (perfectly cast Joey King), introduced to the world in the eponymous children's book series by Beverly Cleary, has to brave some pretty tough stuff; she feels pressure at home and at school to grow up, and she takes it upon herself to save the family home.

Ramona is always dropping into unexpected placesSelena Gomez as Beezus, Joey King as Ramona

Little flourishes remind fans of the book that this is Ramona as she has always been: she stomps around Glenwood School in her red boots, flourishes her Qs with whiskers and a tail, and can't resist springing prissy Susan's "boing-boing" curls. But this is also Ramona for the recession generation: early in the movie, her father (John Corbett) loses his job and must become a stay-at-home Dad on the same day a team of construction workers have begun a new addition, turning the stuff of a nine-year-old's dreams—a hole in her very own house!—into a family crisis. The Case for Big Change at Calvary Chapel istracted by the return of her high school boyfriend Hobart (Josh Duhamel) who is determined to win her back. And on top of that, her older sister Beezus (Selena Gomez, Disney's tween queen of the moment) is growing up, getting her own room and her first real crush on a boy. The plot elements are pieced together from a variety of Cleary's Ramona books, with the majority coming from 1977's Ramona and Her Father. But unlike the books, the film is less about the experiences of one very unique girl and more about the dynamics of a family in flux. At times it doesn't quite capture the imaginative spirit of the source material, but it offers a fun, heartfelt portrait of a family that truly loves each other.

Publishing a book

Self-publishing is fastest, but it takes the most work. Otherwise, you submit a query to known publishing companies, and hope someone loves what you've got. The latter is a crapshoot; the former is a sure thing for publication, but not for sales.
Check out Dan Poynter's _The Self Publishing Manual_ for starters. Tom and Marilyn Ross' Self Publishing book is very good, too.
You can also publish ebooks online, for very little cost. To learn more about that, look at to buy anything that Angela Hoy has written about the subject.
Hope this helps,

Your best choice is

To write the best book you can. Revise and edit. Repeat. Get some feedback and edit again. Polish that book until you can see your reflection in the ink! (to mix a metaphor)
When the book is the best you can make it, then start researching agents. Go to the bookstore and find books similar to your own. Check the acknowledgment pages to see if the authors mention their agents. Take notes on who reps what kind of book. Google agents' names, book titles, and authors. You can can then refine your search with these sites:

Publish America

The worst thing about signing a contract with Publish America is that it's for seven years, which, I believe, is far too excessive for any writing contract.
In addition to that, you do your own publicity, arrange your own book signings, etc.
Publish America claims they send out a press package to all the addresses an author supplies, but I've seen that press package--it's a single piece of paper, it doesn't specify anything at all about the author, and looks like something most people toss out with the other junk mail.
The good thing is that they do print quality books, the books can be ordered online at B&N, Amazon, and the publisher's site, and it doesn't cost the author

Set Up Your Own 'Walking The World' Members Site

Hi Hitch,
You've got a great deal of content there and, to be perfectly honest with you, you're sitting on a goldmine.
All your data is in digital format, I presume. Get someone to set up a site where hitchers, like yourself, can login, post their own collections of images, stories, tips, etc.
In the UK, 'kings of the road' would leave secret signs or markers to let each other know where the best places were to eat for free, get clean, sleep, and also where to avoid and why.
Set up a section called something like 'Global Hitcher Secrets', where members leave top tips for each other, the same way markers used to be

  • Avatar angee1011 Summer reading list... Any ideas for me?
    Jul 24, 2010 by angee1011 | Posted in Books & Authors

I need some good book suggestions from the supernatural/romance/action/thriller genres.
So, here are some that I've read:

Twilight Saga; Mortal Instruments series; Hush, Hush; Immortals series; House …es; Beautiful Creatures series; The Host.

I think that's all the "known by everyone" books I've read. Please don't include any of the above of your list. I want something new, please. :D

    Thanks.

    • The Summer Series by Katherine Applegate:
      Beach Blondes
      Spring Break
      Tan Lines

The Summer Boys Series by Hailey Abbott:
      Summer Boys
      Next Summer
      After Summer
…d they are good and can't wait to read them... as you can tell most of the books on this list take place during the summer and that is because I like to read summery books in the summer!!!

      HOPE I HELPED :D

  • Avatar Q&A Why is there only classics in my iBooks?
Sep 01, 2010 by Q&A | Posted in Horse Racing

I live in Australia and on my iPod touch I downloaded iBooks. There is only free books and it is really annoying me because when I visited the apple shop they had books like "Under the Dome" and "The Help" and "Ramona and Beezus". what is the problem with iBooks

    • When a new ebook store opens, they populate their "shelves" with ebooks from the Gutenburg Project and Google Books which are all basically books where the copyrights have expired. New books require negotiation …their ebook store and limit their ebooks to just their devices (a real pain when you decide to upgrade in a couple of years time). You would need to search online for hacks to hack the library ebooks to work on the iPad.
