More of a dream than a consideration

Cannot happen with my partner. So I thought a toy... but the one I got was too big. No problem, I just use it in the other slot, but I'll have to try again with something smaller in back. It sounds dumb but I've really been too busy recently to get around to things like buying anal plugs. I did enter an online drawing on FetLife to win a butt plug for Christmas, but strangely, I didn't win! A computer malfunction, no doubt. I have a story entered now in some online contest, and I think some tier of winners gets products... probably books, but maybe they'd let me swap my books for an anal plug.

Mine was a little bit older, but the process

You provide "bridges" between the 2 households. This works best if you have the cooperation of his dad, but if not, you can still do some of it.
Have him bring something of his choosing from your home to keep at his dad's house. An example would be a favorite stuffed animal or toy.
Make picture books of both homes/parents. Put the pictures in a book and then let him "dictate" the story that goes with it, and write it down. This can become his bedtime story for those transitional nights. \
I took mine shopping for a bedspread for his room at dad's house. For him, that sent a very strong message that I felt that dad's house was ok (even though I had doubts at that point)
